Let's get started

Caring for your aging Parents

This blog is designed to be a resource for the busy adult child of an aging parent.

My mother’s health was a slow decline. About 5 years ago it became obvious she could not juggle and manage her life with out a little assistance. Vicki (my mother) had lived with a lot of health issues and had manage oxygen delivery, portable oxygen for travel management, taking about 30 meds a day, and keeping an active social life. Mom was officially diagnosed with lung disease, heart failure and kidney failure. She was diabetic also. Somehow, she managed to get everywhere she wanted but she slowly started needing more help. Her decline was about a seven-year decent.

My desire is to help people like myself who just need resources and ways to think outside the box. For educational purposes, I will focus on the last 3 years as the decline was faster and more help was needed.

Financially, my mother was in the unfortunate spot of not bringing in enough money for elder care but making too much for Medicaid help. I hope I can save you some hardship and hopefully make you feel more informed as you navigate necessary decision.

Let me make this clear, I adored my mom. Everything I say here I would discuss with her and we would laugh about, if I only could. She passed away December 27, 2019. By nature I am very frank and practical. I’ll lay bare some of our struggles. This is not an attempt to make my mother look bad but a desire to be so real you can relate and maybe learn from my mistakes.

This blog is dedicated to her. She was so proud that her daughters were her constant advocates.
